Most of what gets called broken is not a fault.
Four things that are not faults account for the majority of “Muse Video not working”: the feature has not reached you, your allowance is spent, the request was refused, or the clip generated fine and simply disappointed you. Each has a different answer, and none of them is a reinstall. Sort which one you have, then work the fix list for what is genuinely broken.
Four questions before you troubleshoot anything
Answer these in order and stop at the first yes. Each one sends you somewhere specific, and only reaching the bottom means you have a fault worth chasing.
Is there a video option in the interface at all?
If not, nothing is broken: the feature has not reached your account, country or surface. No restart, reinstall or subscription conjures it. The five access gates.
Does the message mention limits or usage?
Then the feature is working perfectly and your allowance for this period is spent. Video meters fastest of anything in the app. Wait for the reset or raise the ceiling. Pricing and limits.
Does the refusal mention what you asked for?
That is a policy decision about that request, not a technical failure. Retrying the same words will produce the same answer change the request instead. Prompts that work.
Did you get a clip that is simply not good?
Then generation worked and the result disappointed. Drift near the end, odd audio and a different clip each time are characteristics, not defects. The three with no fix.
None of the above an error, a stall, or nothing returned
Now you have something to fix. Work the list below in order and stop as soon as it generates. The seven fixes.
Ten things people report, sorted
Match what you actually see rather than what you assume it means. The tag in each row says which bucket it falls into.
| What you see | What it usually is | First move |
|---|---|---|
| AvailabilityNo video option anywhere | The feature has not reached this account, country or surface. | Nothing to fix check the gates, and try the browser. |
| AvailabilityVideo on your phone, not on the Mac | Surface gate; desktop generally follows Meta’s own apps. | Keep the app current and wait on Mac specifically. |
| LimitsA message about usage or limits | This period’s allowance is spent. Video meters hardest. | Wait for the reset, or consider Meta One. |
| LimitsWorked yesterday, not today | Usually an allowance or a signed-out account; rarely a paused rollout. | Check for a limit message, then your sign-in login problems. |
| FaultSpinner that never finishes | A stalled job, or a connection that dropped mid-request. | Wait longer than feels reasonable, then quit and relaunch do not spam retry. |
| FaultImmediate error on submit | Connection or authentication rather than the generator. | Check the network, then sign out and back in. |
| FaultClip appears but will not play or save | A download or player problem, not a generation one. | Try another player, re-download, check free disk space. |
| PolicyRefusal that mentions your prompt | A decision about that request. | Change the request; do not retry it unchanged. |
| MediumAudio missing, odd, or out of step | Sound is generated with the picture it is not a separate track. | Regenerate, or silence it and add your own audio guide. |
| MediumFine at the start, wrong at the end | Drift. Later frames have more to stay consistent with. | Ask for a shorter clip, or cut before the trouble why. |
If the whole app is misbehaving rather than video specifically it will not launch, will not sign in, windows are blank start with Meta AI not working instead. This page assumes everything else in the app is fine.
Seven fixes, cheapest first
In order. Stop as soon as a clip generates, and resist skipping to the end the last two are the most disruptive and the least likely to be the answer.
Write down what you actually saw
Before you change anything: what you asked for, what appeared, how long it took, and whether anything else in the app is affected. Troubleshooting without this turns into guessing within two steps.
Wait, and do not resubmit yet
Generation time varies with load, and a server-side hiccup clears on its own. Rapid retries can each spend an attempt against your allowance while telling you nothing.
Check the connection, because nothing is local
No part of generation happens on your Mac, so a flaky network looks exactly like a broken feature. Test something else online before blaming the app where the work happens.
Update the app, then quit it completely
Quit rather than close the window, so the app relaunches fresh and picks up server-side flags. An out-of-date build can also be missing the interface for something your account already has. Updating cleanly.
Sign out and back in
This clears a surprising share of persistent errors, especially after a password change or if you have more than one Meta account. If sign-in itself misbehaves.
Try the same prompt in the browser
The single most informative test on the list. Same account, different surface: if the browser works, the problem is the app; if both fail identically, it is neither your Mac nor your install. Desktop versus web.
Reinstall cleanly, last
Only once the browser has ruled the account and the service in. Remove the app properly, download a fresh copy from Meta, sign in again. How to remove it fully · where the installer lives.
Three things not to do
Do not retry a dozen times. Each generation the service accepted may count against your allowance, so a bad afternoon of retries can cost you the week. Do not add a VPN to solve a fault. It changes an availability variable in the middle of a fault investigation and usually just adds a second problem. Do not install anything calling itself a Muse Video fixer, downloader or unlocker. There is no standalone Muse Video software, so everything claiming to be it is something else.
Video generation needs no Mac permissions either Screen Recording and Accessibility are for window sharing, a different feature. Granting them will not help here.
Three complaints that are the medium, not the product
These are the reports that fill forums and never get resolved, because there is nothing to resolve. Each one follows from how generative video works, and no amount of updating, reinstalling or subscribing touches them.
Knowing which complaints have no fix is worth as much as knowing the fixes. It is the difference between adjusting your approach and waiting for a patch that will never come.
Drift near the end. Early frames have almost no history to contradict; later frames must agree with everything before them, so errors accumulate. Shorter clips, or cutting before the wobble.
Sound slightly out of step. Audio is produced in the same run as the picture, so sync is a third thing that can fail independently of both halves and there is no audio-only retry.
A different clip every time. Generation is not deterministic and there is no seed to write down. This is why saving every attempt is not tidiness but insurance: a clip you delete cannot be recreated from the same words.
Reporting it, and knowing when to wait
If the browser fails the same way your app does, you have finished troubleshooting. What remains is reporting it well and letting it clear.
Capture the five details that make a report useful
What you asked for, what happened, the time, whether the browser does the same, and whether other features still work. Without those, any report is “it does not work”, which nobody can act on.
Send it to Meta, not to a forum
Use the feedback or report control in the app if your build has one, and Meta’s own help channels otherwise. We are an independent guide with no access to accounts, generations or support queues what we can and cannot help with.
Give a service problem a day
Video is the most compute-hungry feature in the app, so it is the first to suffer when capacity is tight and the first to recover. If both surfaces fail, tomorrow is a more effective fix than anything on the list above.
Have a fallback for anything with a deadline
Because the whole feature can be unavailable through no fault of yours, deadline work needs a plan that does not depend on it. Stills are the obvious one when a still will carry it.
Troubleshooting questions
There is no video option at all. Is it broken?
No. A missing option is an availability answer rather than a fault the feature has not reached your account, country or surface. No reinstall, restart or subscription will produce it: the five gates.
My generation spins forever and never finishes. What do I do?
Leave it longer than feels reasonable first, since generation time varies with load. If it never returns, quit the app completely and relaunch, then try once more. Repeated resubmissions may each spend an attempt against your allowance.
Should I resubmit a failed generation straight away?
No. Change nothing and wait a few minutes first. A server-side hiccup clears on its own, while five rapid retries can consume five attempts and tell you nothing about the cause why attempts are the unit.
It worked yesterday and today it does not. Why?
Usually a spent allowance or a signed-out account, occasionally a rollout that has been paused. Check for a limit message first, then your sign-in, before assuming anything is broken.
The clip generated but looks wrong at the end. Is that a bug?
No, that is the medium. Later frames have more to stay consistent with, so drift accumulates toward the end of a clip. It is not a fault and there is no fix only a shorter clip or another attempt: the coherence problem.
The same prompt gives me a different clip every time. Is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong. Generation is not deterministic and there is no seed to reuse, which is why saving every attempt matters a clip you delete cannot be recreated from the same words.
The audio is missing or does not match. Can I fix just that?
Not separately. Sound is produced in the same run as the picture, so there is no audio-only retry; either regenerate the whole clip or silence it and add your own sound in an editor the audio guide.
I got a refusal mentioning my prompt. Is that an error?
That is a policy decision about that particular request, not a technical failure. Change the request rather than retrying it unchanged, and do not read it as a sign that the feature is down.
Does reinstalling the app help?
Rarely, and it is the last step rather than the first. Nothing generates on your Mac, so a clean reinstall only helps when the app itself is misbehaving updating and a full relaunch fix far more cases: the ordered list.
How do I tell a problem at my end from one at Meta’s?
Try the same prompt in the browser with the same account. If both surfaces fail the same way, the problem is almost certainly not your Mac which means waiting is more productive than troubleshooting.
The browser test settles most arguments.
Same account, same prompt, different surface. If it works there, fix the app. If it fails there too, stop troubleshooting and come back tomorrow and either way you have not spent an afternoon on a reinstall that was never going to help.
